HALLWAY DESIGN

Hallway and entry design is as important as any other room, as it is a conduit to all other rooms in the home. For a front entry you want to draw someone in, which could be through a pattern wallpaper or intricate mirror for example. Entry design gives the person entering a first impression, and can tell you what to expect as far as design for the rest of the home. For that reason we put just as much thought into entry and hallway designs as any other room we design. The design should be thoughtful for example the forest wallpaper above used down an extra long hallway in an urban home that opened to 5 bedrooms, all brightly colored and whimsical as was this entire New York City apartment. In this case we let the rooms off the hallway speak and be loud, while the long forest-clad hallway was calm before the drama.

In a hallway design we normally incorporate a custom runner or area rug, as well as thoughtful lighting which can be a pair of sconces for a moody or luxurious feeling, or an eye-popping chandelier. A console with a beautiful tray or dish to place keys with an interesting mirror placed above it is very practical when running out the door. For families with kids, we have switched the console for a large chest of drawers to house items like sunscreen, snow mittens and tissue.
