Living Room Design & family room design

Living room and family room design are some of my favorite rooms to design as each client has a very different vision for what they’d like their rooms to look like including their desired color palette, their needs for the room whether a mounted tv or extra seating for example. A lot of this is determined during our first interior design meeting, where we ask lots of questions, getting at the heart of what our clients want. Whether their living room is the main room their family gathers during the day being an important one. Most rooms are not alike and have design challenges that are always exciting for my design firm as we work through them, doing many furniture floor plans, and renderings, to show our clients all of the possibilities. This could mean a custom sofa that works with the unique curve of the room, swivel chairs to accommodate a room with many openings, whereas we believe their is always a solution and the design possibilities are endless.

Some clients may want their living room design to have movement and pattern where we then bring in a grasscloth wallpaper or a fun pattern wallpaper for example. So much goes into each design and no detail is overlooked. Beyond how the clients live and how they want to feel in the space, we look at the adjacent rooms, the style and year the home or apartment was build as well as the surroundings, whether it is an urban home, a home surrounded by lush gardens, or a vacation home in the forest for example, all of the outside elements are important for our design. Sometimes for example in a living room design, we use a floral wallpaper that reminds us of the clients beautiful gardens, or paint a living room dusty pink mimicking the brownstone buildings out their windows, an example of bringing the outside in.

We are also known for doing beautiful custom furniture coming from our 15 years of design, and knowing the furniture and design market well. Most projects have at least one, though many of our interior design projects have multiple pieces of custom furniture my interior design team has designed - starting with a pencil sketch.

We work closely with all of the trades including furniture makers, wallpaper installers, textile designers, contractors and tradespeople, and enjoy our collaborations having worked with many for over a decade. They are not accidental partnerships but ones we vet carefully, while having the common goal of doing our very best work, with the highest level of custom service, to produce the best design solutions possible. We leverage these partnerships to design and create the very best designs for each space in your home.
