My New Jersey interior design company was called on to design the interiors of a newly built home in the Poconos, PA. I first toured the vacation home last summer, and seeing our client was so receptive to our initial design ideas, including weaving patterns and bright colors in choice areas, we knew it was a great fit. My design team had a mission to make our clients vacation home both beautiful, and relaxing, while reflecting our client’s chic urban style. Our client works long hours in the New York City, therefor we wanted her Poconos vacation home to exude a peaceful feeling from the moment she enters the front door, where nothing feels loud, or takes away from the views of forest and even the river behind her home. The home has 5 bedrooms that each had a purpose and use, from the client’s primary suite and primary sitting room, bathroom and dressing room, to the other 4 bedrooms meant for her family, including nieces and nephews, where they could all stay comfortably within 3 floors of living space. Beyond that, there is a den with doors to close it off if needed for work, a gym and an expansive rec room.

When you enter the home you are met with an open floor plan where you see the living room and great room. We added 18 ft high drapery panels using a custom printed fabric to draw the eye in, and a custom-designed sectional sofa and area rug in a light cream color, so it didnt detract from the overall design. We knew we wanted a teal, but not anything trendy, so searched for just the right shade we hadnt seen used anywhere, whereas the pattern sofa pillows unify the color palette making it work seamlessly. Within the home we had custom window treatments made for all of the windows, neutral in some rooms with bands of color at the bottom, while others full of pattern and texture. We also commissioned and places many artworks from artisans around the US in the rooms including many 3-dimensional pieces filled with color.

This became a dream project where we used a lot of custom items including custom lighting, and in some rooms the newest wallpaper designs that had just came out that can be seen in the powder room and dressing room. In our clients bedroom we used many lush velvets in a palette of greens and oranges combined with soothing sand tones, some fabrics made custom for us including her drapery. In her walk-in closet, we took a newly released butterfly pattern and used it as wallpaper for the ceiling, while requested a fabric version be made that we could use for the drapes and window seat, giving it an all-encompassing feel. Where there arent butterflies there’s an electric pink paint color used on the ceiling eaves and all the faceplates, to eliminate any white color - the perfect backdrop for our client’s expansive wardrobe filled with vivid color frocks and shoes.
