As a top New Jersey interior designer we get calls about all types of projects but this one really stuck out for many reasons. The clients’ home was a Dutch revival in pristine condition with dozens of original leaded glass windows, beautifully restored oak floors, and the original stucco walls - located in Upper Montclair, New Jersey where our New Jersey interior design office happens to be located. Beyond that, they had a very clear vision, while having traveled extensively, and wanted an English feel woven throughout the home’s design, which we were delighted to create for them.

The couple with two children both worked long hours, scheduling our interior design meetings briefly on their lunch breaks, though always exciting with romantic ideas of the dining area and custom bar we were to design and have built for them. We started with their primary suite that began with demolishing an existing section that had built-in drawers in order to put our clients custom vanity. We wanted it to be very luxurious in look and feel, using gold accents throughout, and have everything our client would need including flattering lighting, hidden outlets and charging stations, and drawers for all hair appliances with hidden interior outlets. Once we were almost complete and we saw an elegant white box, we opted to add a grasscloth wallpaper with a natural shimmer quality to make the area really pop.

For their dining room, they had a very clear vision, to make it moody, romantic and mimic a downtown New York City hotel lounge they’d go on dates at when they lived in New York. We also wanted a slight nod to Out of Africa woven through the design, whereas they knew they wanted exotic animals as an integral part of the design. We hired a top contractor to build a custom bar, and spent months drawing it out, creating templates and mock-ups in the room to make sure the bar was the perfect size and functioned exactly as the clients would like, without the bar taking up too much space in dining room that also needed a long dining table, and settee for their friends and family to lounge on.

After the completion of the dining room, we completed the kids rooms interior design for their two daughters bedrooms. We used a whimsical pattern wallpaper for the younger daughter’s room in teals and hot pinks, paired with long ivory drapery and even a custom full wall chalk board with custom frame, to complete the fanciful room she could play and do art projects within. For the older daughter we created a fanciful Parisian atelier vibe for the buddying fashion designer, using a more sophisticated pattern wallpaper for the older daughters room in dusty pink and gold tones, and ample table space for sewing and pin boards for design concepts.
