Summit interior designer - design process
Initial Meeting
We would love to hear more about your interior design needs, and like to start with a 20-30 minute discovery call, and after that if you would like to move ahead we would set up a time to meet in person at your home. Here is a bit more about our design process and what you can expect, as well as our portfolio with recent projects. Before our call we ask for any photos you can provide of your home (or a link to the home), a bit more about what you would like done, your desired budget and timeline.
The phone call is very helpful as we get a feel for your interior design needs, goals or wishlist and walk you through the different ways we can work together, our current interior design rates, and anything else thats important for your particular project. If we feel the client would be a good fit for our Summit interior design team, we would set up an in-home consultation. This is a working meeting and is billed by the hour. We do a walk through giving preliminary design ideals, and asking lots of questions to get a sense of priorities, you and your family’s design needs, all while giving design recommendations for each space. Once our design team is able to review the scope of work we write everything in a detailed proposal for your review, listing everything we will source from lighting, to furniture, renderings and room layouts for kitchen and bath designs are included in this proposal.
Design Process:
Once we have signed contracts and retainers, our Summit design firm gets started measuring and sketching rooms in your home to begin space planning. We work on color schemes and draw floor plan options, elevations, and design mood boards during this time also. A lot of our time is spent during the design process as we see which layouts and mood boards you respond to, making adjustments as needed. We lay out each room, while also sourcing furniture, soft furnishings, light fixtures, and many other things once your design style established. We begin setting up all work corresponding to our drawings including millwork, painting, wallpapering, window treatment installation, to name a few. Shopping trips to various design centers to test out furniture is also important for the designer and client to do if the client has time.
Next Steps:
Once furniture, soft furnishings and all of the fixtures are chosen and approved and signed off on, we begin the ordering items - approving all material samples, tracking items, following as they get ready to ship, followed by receiving and inspecting all items. Things done always arrive in perfect condition due to shipping or freight issues, whereas we file claims and get replacements quickly.
When We Aren’t Meeting:
Many things go on at our Summit design office when we are not meeting to keep your project going. This includes updating architectural drawings, checking in weekly if not more with contractors and various trades, while closely monitoring both the budget and timeline of the project. We are also out visiting our upholsterers and various trades in their workrooms to ensure your furniture is made to our specifications. Many site visits also happen to view progress on each project, answer contractors questions, take photos, etc.
Installation:
This is where it gets really exciting, where all of our collaborating comes to fruition. Your furniture and accessories are either stored safely or brought to your home as they are finished and ready. If we do a full service installation where everything is setup in a room or home, it takes a few days to a week, where our team and I, along with our expert movers (also trusted art hangers, handymen, rug installers and so on) work carefully to unpack and place each furniture and accessory. We make sure every window shade or linen is pressed, rugs are laid, art is hung, and each item is placed just right. We are your liaison from start to finish and always here should you need anything once you start using and enjoying your home.
