Montclair Powder Room Renovation

As a top New Jersey interior designer, we get many calls to design kitchens and baths. It’s exciting to do these types of renovations as each home has it’s own nuances along with the style and year it was built in. That combined with any updates the owner or previous owners have made, which can be dynamic and well done, or done quickly and not to code for example, where parts of a home need to be redone. Whether a pre-war or new build home, we are delighted to be asked to design spaces for our clients and this one was truly unique. When meeting with our client, they showed us a door attached to their kitchen that was a tiny three by five foot square powder room, with both the basement door, and back patio door, attached to it. Which meant 3 doorways in this powder room! This design challenge was an exciting one, where after seeing the clients lovely gardens flanking her home, knew exactly how this powder room should look.

Our client’s home is a dutch colonial revival situated on a lovely tree lined street in Upper Montclair, NJ and we took inspiration from the client’s lush garden, sprinkled floral concepts throughout the powder room (and home). We used a wallpaper from England from a favorite textile designer that I hadnt seen used anywhere else. We paired that with the tiniest possible wall-mounted sink basin we could find, as a vanity with an integrated sink would not fit, and opted for all brass fixtures. We had fun with the floor tile, though wanted it to look understated so the wallpaper could do the talking, likewise with the mirror we chose. We then practically plucked from their garden a sage green to use on the shutters, trim, doorways and doors as the accent color, rather than a white, to make it feel all encompassing.
