Clinton Ave, Montclair NJ estate

As a top New Jersey interior designer, our ideal interior design projects, though we truly love every home we work on, are estates like this one with classical details we know well and even studied in design school - done by noteworthy architects, on picturesque tree-lined streets. This one just happened to be in the same town as our interior design studio in Montclair, New Jersey. Our client reached out having recently relocated her family from Brooklyn, NY to Montclair, NJ during the pandemic, and while it was lovely to began with, knew she needed to make a mark on her new home.

This home redesign is located in the estate section of Montclair, NJ and was a very special interior design project to take on. The home was built in the 1920’s with exquisite neoclassical elements, and had been both well cared for, and also beautifully restored, which includes a sun porch added by a top contractor in the North Jersey area. It’s classical bones just needed some color and new life that our client and her young family craved, and sought my New Jersey interior decorating company out for.

We added whimsical pattern wallpapers in choice areas, a hand-painted custom blue metallic ceiling in the formal dining room, tastefully and carefully chosen lighting throughout, and custom furniture for the front rooms. For the family room, kitchen and family dining rooms located down a lofty hallway off the main entrance, we continued with our colorful palette weaving in the exact shade of bright blue Panton chairs in the dining area that my design team looked high and low for, combined with a round natural oak dining table, for some fun juxtaposition. We added all custom broadloom area rugs that are washable and neutral in color for an understated look in these areas, as well as a custom royal blue sofa as a nod to where our clients met each other - using their alma mater colors naturally. That combined with durable leather swivel chairs to add interest - in a brown color for grounding. We finished off each room and achieved a youthful yet sophisticated feeling by adding original artwork, some by the likes of Damien Hirst and Hunt Slonem - leaving this home’s classical details intact, while giving it a family-friendly, colorful aesthetic and modern touches that meld with the overall design.
