Glen Ridge NJ Center Hall Colonial design
For this particular project, our Glen Ridge client asked us to come on board as an interior design consultant as many areas of her home were already completed and she had a lot of the furniture chosen. While most of our projects are turn-key ready interiors, where we come on board during the construction of a new home, or when our client is closing on a new home, we were happy to help in this case as our design style was in line with what the client had chosen on her own, so naturally a great fit. The collaboration was seamless, whereas we chose paint colors for her dining room, consulted on adding paneling to below the chair rail, and found this stunning abstract wallpaper after learning more about what the client was looking for and how they wanted to feel in the space. There are brighter colors in the family gathering spaces so we wanted the formal dining room design to feel more grown up, while adding the whimsy and curious details we weave into each project that become fun talking points when our clients’ entertain.
My Montclair interior design team started by viewing our clients’ inspiration images, something we ask of all clients, to learn what shapes, styles, colors and other details they gravitate toward. That way our selections are grounded in what they like, as images tend to have common threads based on what are clients love, whether that be colors, or design styles like mid-century or traditional for example. For the formal dining room design we knew we wanted a monochrome palette as that is what the client had expressed, whereas the living room design is where we added fun pops of color.
For the living room with already beautiful classical bones, we opted for a deep blue grasscloth for the walls, playing off a blue jeans-like loveseat we used, and in a color harmony with a pink velvet sofa in the same room. Our client works on movie sets so added a pair of director-like vintage armchairs to the open space near the windows, and helped the client frame a heirloom silk scarf above the fire to add a personal touch.
